This is TURNING POINT WEEK…up to 27th Feb where huge decisions affecting the future of the nation will be instated.
The flag is based on the flag of the Mozambican Liberation Front (FRELIMO), the political party that has been in power since 1975.
The design of a flag represents what a nation stands for. In the face of this particular design boasting a gun and a Marxist star for more than 30 years, this is not a comforting thought. Green stands for the riches of the land. How rich is this land! Yet the people are of the poorest in the world. White stand for peace, yet there is no peace. Black represents the African continent…what a beautiful, magnificent continent filled with amazing people. Yellow symbolizes the country’s minerals, it is time for the nation to be built and developed out of its own enormous mineral wealth. Red represents the struggle for independence, yet tragically blood has not ceased to flow. The blood of the innocents involuntarily caught up in the fighting and killing cries out from the ground. The open book symbolizes the importance of education, yet the majority of children still do not have access to proper education. The hoe represents the country’s agriculture, but still there is little yield for women hoeing fields in the blazing sun with babies tied to their backs. The star symbolizes Marxism. THIS STAR MUST GO! It is time for the star of righteousness, justice and peace to shine in government, in city councils, in police departments, on the streets and in the lives of Mozambican men, women and children.
IT IS TIME FOR A NEW FLAG, TIME FOR A NEW MOZAMBIQUE!
